Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Camarma Monument · Camarma de Esteruelas, Cuenca del Medio Jarama, Madrid The church of San Pedro Apóstol, in Camarma de Esteruelas, retains from its original 13th-century fabric the semicircular apse and the brick pre-apse, in mudéjar style. In the mid-16th century the rest of the temple was rebuilt, with a three-nave plan and a wooden roof over the naves added in the early modern period; the masonry-and-brick tower was raised by Juan de Ballesteros. In the apse survive remains of a painting of a Pantocrator from the late 14th century, with Romanesque and Gothic features, one of the most interesting sets of mural painting in the Community of Madrid. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), monument category, by decree of 30 May 1997, and belongs to the diocese of Alcalá de Henares.
