Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River Nature · Villanueva del Pardillo, Cuenca del Guadarrama, Madrid The Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River and its surroundings, created by Law 20/1999, protects 22,116 hectares spread across nineteen municipalities of the Community of Madrid, among them Villanueva del Pardillo, 26 kilometres from the capital and set at 650 metres beside the final stretch of the river within its municipal area. The park forms a strip some 50 kilometres long along the banks of the Guadarrama. Amid riverside woods, holm oak groves, scrubland, pine woods and dry-farmed fields, the areas of greatest ecological interest are concentrated precisely within the municipality of Villanueva del Pardillo, inside a park that protects close to 38% of the river's total course.
