What to see and do in Villanueva del Pardillo

Villanueva del Pardillo
Village
Villanueva del Pardillo is a locality of about 18,500 inhabitants in the Community of Madrid, situated 26 km from the capital, in the basin of the middle course of the River Guadarrama, at 650 metres of altitude. It obtained the title of villa on 4 November 1702. The River Guadarrama marks its eastern boundary within the regional park that bears its name, and next to the main urban centre several housing developments of detached houses have grown up, such as Santa María, Natura and Las Vegas, which arose between the late 1980s and the 1990s. Its parish is dedicated to Saint Luke the Evangelist.
Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River
Nature
The Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River and its surroundings, created by Law 20/1999, protects 22,116 hectares spread across nineteen municipalities of the Community of Madrid, among them Villanueva del Pardillo, 26 kilometres from the capital and set at 650 metres beside the final stretch of the river within its municipal area. The park forms a strip some 50 kilometres long along the banks of the Guadarrama. Amid riverside woods, holm oak groves, scrubland, pine woods and dry-farmed fields, the areas of greatest ecological interest are concentrated precisely within the municipality of Villanueva del Pardillo, inside a park that protects close to 38% of the river's total course.
