Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Monument · Parla, Área Metropolitana, Madrid The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad was built in the early sixteenth century and completely rebuilt in the seventeenth by the architect Bartolomé Hurtado, who gave it simple lines, a tower with a three-tiered belfry and a white rendered façade with grey details imitating granite; above the door is displayed its own coat of arms. It has paid homage to the patroness of Parla since 1777 and was blessed on 28 September 1670, the date on which its September festivities are still held. Inside it holds a well linked to the founding legend of Parla: a mute woman is said to have recovered her speech after drinking its waters, an origin tradition attributes to the town's name.
