Lo Portal (The Gate)

Lo Portal is the original access gate to the village of Prat de Comte, declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). It has a voussoired round arch in ashlar and brick in the lower part, which marks the ground level of earlier periods, and a segmental arch on the opposite side. The ceiling is a timber and brick frame, lower than the original. Inside, the entrance arches of the neighbouring houses can be made out, now blocked. The present arch dates from the 17th century, as can be read on one of its ashlar blocks.
