Depopulation of the Terra Alta Historical milestone · Prat de Comte, Terra Alta, Tarragona Image of Prat de Comte, not of the place itself. The Terra Alta, a comarca of twelve municipalities in the Terres de l'Ebre with Gandesa as its capital, went from more than twenty-three thousand inhabitants in 1920 to just over eleven thousand a century later, driven down by phylloxera, war and emigration to the coast. Several municipalities fell below two hundred residents, such as Prat de Comte, which had 372 inhabitants in the mid-19th century and has 174 today. 1920-2020 Photo: Government of Catalonia (Attribution) What to see and do in Prat de Comte
