The events of la Fatarella Historical milestone · la Fatarella, Terra Alta, Tarragona The Fets de la Fatarella were a series of violent clashes that took place in late January 1937 in this village in the Terra Alta, a consequence of its inhabitants' resistance to attempts at forced collectivisation of their land by the Control Patrols led by the CNT-FAI. In la Fatarella the collective had been formed from the lands of the wealthiest landowners, without managing to bring in the rest of the peasantry. The incidents broke out on 24 January, when the farmers disarmed in the square two anarchist militiamen who were trying to force their way into the town hall; the resistance ended with the entry of armed columns into the village and the shooting of thirty-four residents. A monument erected in 2010 commemorates the victims. 1937 Photo: Jordi Gili (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in la Fatarella
