Hermitage of el Pinell de Brai

The hermitage of el Pinell de Brai is that of Santa Maria Magdalena, in the municipality of el Pinell de Brai (Terra Alta), near the monument to the combatants of the Serra de Pàndols of 1938, the final episode of the Battle of the Ebro, the last major military action of the Spanish Civil War, in which the Serra de Pàndols and the Serra de Cavalls marked the front line. Every year a pilgrimage is held to the hermitage on the second Saturday after Holy Week. It is reached by the road linking el Pinell with Gandesa, about two kilometres from the latter town.
