Gaià River through the Tarragonès Nature · Vespella de Gaià, Tarragonès, Tarragona Image of Vespella de Gaià, not of the place itself. The Gaià river, 59 kilometers long, crosses the Tarragonès through the municipalities of El Catllar, La Riera de Gaià, Altafulla, Salomó, Vilabella and Bràfim, and flows into the sea at the beach of Tamarit, near Altafulla, where it forms a lagoon protected as a wildlife reserve since 1995. Its last eleven kilometers usually run dry because the Catllar dam retains the water for the petrochemical industry. Photo: Enric (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Vespella de Gaià
