Castle of Miravet Monument · Miravet, Ribera d'Ebre, Tarragona A fortress of Muslim origin dating from the 9th century, converted into a Templar castle-convent in 1153, seat of the Templar province of Catalonia and Aragon. Located on the summit of a hill about a hundred metres high, it is considered one of the finest examples of Templar military architecture in Catalonia and has been a cultural asset of interest since 1988. It is divided into the jussà enclosure, of Andalusi origin, walled on three levels, and the sovereign enclosure, from the 12th century, with five towers and outbuildings arranged like a Cistercian monastery adapted for military use: stables, cistern, refectory, cellar and chapter house. The Treasure Tower held the order's archive, and the Blood Tower commemorates the Templars executed there after the surrender of 1308.
