The wall of Poboleda, declared an asset of national cultural interest, formerly surrounded this town in the comarca of Priorat (Tarragona), which today has 345 inhabitants. No visible remains of the walled enclosure survive; its memory endures only in the name of the plaza del Portalet, which marks the site of one of its old gates. Poboleda was the birthplace of the first community of the Charterhouse of Escaladei, established at the site around 1167 before moving, in 1203, to the site where the present charterhouse stands.
