Els Muntells Curiosity · Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Montsià, Tarragona Els Muntells is a population centre located in the southern sector of the Ebro delta, between the Tancada lagoon and the Platjola pool, near the strip of land called el Trabucador. It was formed from 1860 onward, when the Dreta de l'Ebre canal made it possible to introduce rice growing through a complex irrigation network and the draining of the delta lands; it began as a cluster of huts made of reeds, cane and mud that gradually lined up along what is today calle Major. It is a minor local entity belonging to the municipality of Sant Jaume d'Enveja, which split from Tortosa in 1978 and moved from the Baix Ebre county to the Montsià county in 1990. Its residents live mainly from agriculture, growing rice in summer and citrus fruit and greenhouse crops in winter. Photo: Pere López (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Sant Jaume d'Enveja
