Castle of Biure Monument · les Piles, Conca de Barberà, Tarragona Biure Castle, already documented in 1072 when Oliver Bernat, son of Bernat Senfred de Gurb, was appointed castlan of the castles of Biure, Les Piles and Montclar, stands in the hamlet of Biure de Gaià, within the municipality of les Piles. In 1151 Guillem Aguiló ceded its tithes to the Order of the Hospitallers, who established a house of the order there in 1193 and eventually bought the castle in 1266; over time they came to found a priory that lasted until the 18th century. Already in the 20th century it passed to the viscounts of Bell-lloc, who carried out a total remodelling and turned it into the present castle-palace. Today it is a private residence and the interior cannot be visited. Photo: EliziR (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in les Piles
