Walled Enclosure of Conesa Monument · Conesa, Conca de Barberà, Tarragona The walled precinct of Conesa (Conca de Barberà), declared an asset of national cultural interest, preserves part of the old 14th-century enclosure, with the gates of Sant Antoni or Reial and that of Santa Maria, made of irregular ashlars. Badly damaged by the construction of housing along its perimeter, it has been preserved thanks to the Saladern stream, which naturally surrounds it, forking around the settlement. Conesa had two walled precincts throughout its history: the first, of which no trace remains, surrounded the old castle or castellany, at the highest point of the town; the current one dates from the 14th century, when Conesa's importance as a market grew, and it came to have eight towers.
