Firework Workshops of the Terres de l'Ebre Monument · l'Aldea, Baix Ebre, Tarragona The coeteres are a group of vernacular buildings built between 1950 and 1973 in the Ebro Delta to store and fire the anti-hail rockets that protected the rice fields from hailstorms. In the municipality of l'Aldea stands the one known as Ravanals, one of twelve coeteres declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), in the category of area of ethnological interest, by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2017. These structures had to provide dry conditions for storing the rockets and their launchers, as well as sufficient safety for the work of the coeteros who fired them. Thirty-eight were built between 1950 and 1973, of which 26 survive, funded by the Mutualidad Arrocera de Seguros following the heavy hail losses of the 1940s.
