Fortress and Wheat Store of Barcelona Monument · Mont-roig del Camp, Baix Camp, Tarragona Remains of an abandoned settlement located between the points of Penyals and Porquerola, in the municipality of Mont-roig del Camp (Baix Camp, Tarragona), next to l'Hospitalet de l'Infant. In the early 15th century the municipality of Barcelona acquired the site to secure the transport of wheat coming down the Ebro to the city, and built a fortified warehouse with granaries, a defence tower and a small settlement; the grain arrived by cart from Tívissa to await shipment. In 1408 corsairs destroyed the installation and captured its inhabitants, who were rescued by the Comuna del Camp. The settlement was abandoned in the late 15th century and the tower was blown up by the British in 1813; today only stone walls with ashlar reinforcements remain.
