Castle of la Selva del Camp Monument · la Selva del Camp, Baix Camp, Tarragona The Castell de la Selva del Camp stands at the northern end of the historic centre of la Selva del Camp, a municipality in the Baix Camp, in Tarragona. It dates from the 12th century, when it was the residence of the provost, an ecclesiastical dignity of the chapter of Tarragona; after this office was abolished in 1410, it passed to the archbishop in 1412, under whose rule it remained until the agrarian reforms of the 19th century, after which it served as a school and a Civil Guard barracks. Excavations in 1986 uncovered the original structure, rectangular in plan, with a north facade that retains double-splayed windows in worked stone. Restored, it now functions as a cultural centre, with temporary exhibitions and the permanent exhibition L'obra d'oller, protected as a bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's designation for cultural heritage of national interest).
