La Masó Village · la Masó, Alt Camp, Tarragona La Masó is a small municipality in Alt Camp, in the province of Tarragona, situated at 115 metres above sea level very close to the chemical estate of the provincial capital. Its origins are unclear, although the original settlement may have formed from farms dependent on El Rourell; in the 14th century it appears as part of the commune of Camp de Tarragona, and in 1391 the archbishop bought the seigneurial rights from King John I of Aragon. Its coat of arms, with a cross pattée and a domus or inn, recalls the old Templar lords and the origin of its name. It preserves the church of Santa Magdalena, neo-Romanesque and from 1890, built above an earlier bell tower from around 1817, and a Modernista house by the architect Salas i Ricomà. Its economy is divided between irrigated hazelnuts and rain-fed carob and olive trees. It has 307 inhabitants. Photo: Tabalot (Public domain) What to see and do in la Masó
