Castle of Guimerà Monument · Guimerà, Urgell, Lleida A castle of Romanesque origin, from the 11th century, built on bare rock at the boundary between the plateau and the ridge of the Corb valley; it was extended between the 12th and 18th centuries by the Alemany de Cervelló, Castre, Pinós and Híxer families, in successive phases as far as its western end, and it is linked to the Gothic church through the old cemetery. Damaged in 1835 during the siege of Guimerà in the First Carlist War, it preserves walls and a half-ruined round tower, its most characteristic element, which has become the town's most emblematic building. Declared a bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), it passed in 1971 to the Diputación de Lérida and underwent consolidation work between 1973 and 1984.
