The Granary of Castellserà Monument · Castellserà, Urgell, Lleida La Panera de Castellserà, popularly known as el castell, is in fact the old granary that the monastery of Poblet, lord of the town, built to administer the tithe from its possessions in Urgell; the work is due to Abbot Domènec Porta, between 1502 and 1526, already in the 16th century, whose coat of arms appears both on the doorway and on an arcade inside. The building, of trapezoidal plan and two storeys, preserves on the ground floor five circular columns supporting, by means of six segmental arches, the wooden-beamed ceiling; earlier foundations suggest an older structure, that of the vanished castle of the place. Declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection) in 2001. After the disentailment it passed into private hands, and in 1982 it was acquired by the town council, which turned it into a cultural centre under the name Cistella.
