Castle of Besora Monument · Navès, Solsonès, Lleida The castle of Besora stands on a hill of the Vall de Lord, between Navès and the Serra de Busa, in the Solsonès, at about 840 metres of altitude, from where much of the lower Solsonès is dominated. Documented since 982 as "chastro Besora", it formed, together with the castles of Navès and Lladurs, the defensive system that controlled access to the valleys of the river Aigua d'Ora, the Cardener and the Lladurs stream, on the frontier that Count Wilfred the Hairy established at the end of the 9th century against the Muslim territories. In 1312 Ramon de Jorba sold it, together with that of Navès, to the provost of Solsona. The building, made up of three medieval rectangular sections forming an elongated tower some twenty metres long, today serves as a farmhouse.
