Castle-Palace of the Espolters Monument · Albatàrrec, Segrià, Lleida The Castell-palau dels Espolters, or castle of Albatàrrec, stands on top of a hill overlooking the village of Albatàrrec, in the Segrià (Lleida). It originates in the 13th century, though it was remodelled in the 16th when it was acquired by Francesc d'Espolter, whose son Martí Joan d'Espolter adapted it as a residence; between 1924 and 1926 it was rebuilt again, in a medievalist conception, under the Camon family of Barcelona. It is a rectangular-plan building, with two three-storey wings at right angles and a tower topped by a cornice and circular turrets; the courtyard preserves Gothic arcades and a circular fountain with mythological figures. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 8 November 1988. Photo: Deosringas (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Albatàrrec
