Fondarella's Festa Major d'Hivern is held in the municipality where, on 6 November 1974, some two thousand farmers gathered clandestinely to found Unió de Pagesos, the first democratic agrarian union in Catalonia; the Premonstratensian monastery of Sant Nicolau de l'Hospitalet had already been founded in its district in 1220.
