Fortified Enclosure of Vilamur Monument · Soriguera, Pallars Sobirà, Lleida The fortified precinct of Vilamur, in the municipality of Soriguera, at 1,289 metres above sea level, was from the late 11th century the patrimony of the viscounts of Pallars, called Siarbensis until in the 12th century they adopted the name Vilamur; several bishops were among them. The title passed in 1381 to Ramon d'Anglesola and in 1386 to Hug Folc II de Cardona, first count of Cardona. Of the complex, the layout of the lanes of the first precinct survives, along with a Romanesque portal with red sandstone voussoirs, a corner tower at the western end, and the church of the Mare de Déu de Medina, from the 12th century and with defensive features. It is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (the highest level of heritage protection in Catalonia). Photo: Jordiavus (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Soriguera
