Railway from Lleida to la Pobla de Segur Historical milestone · la Pobla de Segur, Pallars Jussà, Lleida The railway line that follows the Segre and Noguera Pallaresa rivers upstream connects Lleida, Balaguer, Tremp and la Pobla de Segur, linking the Lleida plain with the Pre-Pyrenees; the stretch to Balaguer opened in 1924 and did not reach la Pobla until 1951, after decades of work. Designed to reach France, it stopped there and today is the railway access route to the Lleida Pyrenees. Since 2005 it has been run by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, which also operates, under the Tren dels Llacs tourist brand, bus services connecting to Sort, Esterri d'Àneu and, in summer, the Estany Gento cable car in the Vall Fosca. 1951 Photo: Phil Richards from London, UK (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in la Pobla de Segur
