Castle declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's top heritage-protection category); in 1050 Count Ramon Berenguer I received it from the Arab warlord of Lleida, in 1222 James I confirmed it in favor of Guillem Ramon II de Montcada, and in 1330 it passed to the marquisate of Camarasa.
