Castle of Tudela Monument · Artesa de Segre, Noguera, Lleida Termenat castle of the municipality of Artesa de Segre that crowned the hamlet of Tudela de Segre, on the left slope of the river Senill; the current building was raised over the old medieval fortress following a Baroque design, reusing the ashlars from the earlier walls. Tudela has been documented since 1092 and the castle belonged to the viscounts of Áger; throughout the 12th and 13th centuries it passed through the Cervelló family, among them Guerau Alemany de Cervelló, and later through the lords of Olmar and Francesc Gilabert i d'Alentorn, a deputy of the Generalitat of Catalonia. At the beginning of the 19th century it belonged to the marquis of Barberà. During the Civil War it served as a military school and control centre for the Republican forces, from which period drawings survive on its interior walls.
