Castle declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's top heritage-protection category) atop the hill overlooking Algerri; in 1105, before its conquest from the Muslims around 1130, Count Pedro Ansúrez ceded it in freehold to Ramon Berenguer III and Almodis de Mortain.
