Ice well of Juneda Historical milestone · Juneda, Garrigues, Lleida The Juneda ice well, included in Catalonia's Inventory of Architectural Heritage, lies beneath Tres Creus square in Juneda (Garrigues), enclosed by the square's retaining wall. It is a solid structure built of irregular ashlar stone with mortar, cylindrical in shape and topped by a conical cap, with a base about 8 metres in diameter and similar height; it was entered through a small opening on the east side, and part of the wall of the old town wall is preserved beside it. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries to compact winter snow and sell it in summer for medicinal purposes, it fell out of use and became a dump until it was restored in 1982; during the Civil War three openings were cut into it so it could be used as an air-raid shelter. siglo XVI Photo: Kit-arras (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Juneda
