Church of Sant Esteve d'Alinyà Monument · Fígols i Alinyà, Alt Urgell, Lleida A Romanesque church with a single nave and semicircular apse, situated in Fígols i Alinyà (Alt Urgell), documented in 1036 and consecrated by Bishop Guillem d'Urgell in 1057. The masonry of the apse, large and irregular, differs from that of the nave walls, which alternate courses of flat stones with larger ones, an arrangement typical of the pre-Romanesque tradition; the facade, much altered, retains a round-arched doorway with four receding archivolts and a similar window. In the Gothic period the original vault was replaced with a pointed one, and a two-bay bell-gable was added. The apse was restored in 1985, when a sacristy attached to it was removed. It is declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). Photo: Vincent van Zeijst (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Fígols i Alinyà
