Castle of Anglès Monument · Anglès, Selva, Girona The castle of Anglès stood on the highest stretch of the walled enclosure, dominating the valley of Anglès and the area of la Cellera, Sant Julià del Llor and Bonmatí. It dated from the 11th-12th centuries, with a second phase of occupation in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, when it was extended to cover a good part of what is now the old quarter. It is not documented until 1242, in the will of Guerau V de Cabrera, who created with the castles of Anglès and Brunyola a small estate for his son Ramon. Today only a few walls with arrow slits remain, along with the memory preserved in the urban layout, since the Plaça de la Vila, trapezoidal in shape, occupies the old parade ground; in 1991 the town council acquired the ruins' land in order to investigate and preserve them.
