Castle of Roca Monument · Sant Miquel de Campmajor, Pla de l'Estany, Girona The Castell d'en Roca stands by the Ser river, near a waterfall and its confluence with the Ritort, in the large and scattered municipal area of Sant Miquel de Campmajor. Documented since the 12th century -the earliest reference may be a Ramon de Roca recorded in 1174- its lords were the Roca family and, later, a Pere de Prat de Girona, recorded in 1320. It is in fact a fortified house, today resembling a farmhouse after later alterations: a rectangular plan with a small inner courtyard, a ground floor and one upper storey, and a voussoired round-arched gateway; on the upper floor a twin window opens, without a capital and with floral decoration on the impost. The tower, attached to the south façade and well preserved, is the oldest element of the complex, in late Romanesque style, from the late 13th or early 14th century. It is a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN 1515-MH), Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection. Photo: Antoni Grifol (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Sant Miquel de Campmajor
