Castle of Cartellà Monument · Sant Gregori, Gironès, Girona The castle of Cartellà stands in the village of Cartellà, a settlement in the municipality of Sant Gregori (Gironès) located in the Vall del Llémena, about five kilometres from the municipal capital, crossed by the river Gàrrep and surrounded by farmhouses, fields and woods. Documented since the 12th century and extended in the 13th and 14th centuries until it became a Gothic fortress adapted to firearms in the 15th, it belonged to the Cartellà, Xetmar and Milany lineages. Together with the parish church of Sant Feliu de Cartellà, it is one of the elements of greatest cultural and architectural interest in this small settlement, which was an independent local entity until 1846, when it was joined to Sant Gregori.
