Shrine of la Mare de Déu de Rocacorba Monument · Canet d'Adri, Gironès, Girona The sanctuary, declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), stands at the top of the Rocacorba massif, at 929 metres, next to Puigsou, and on clear days the Cap de Creus, the Montgrí, the Medes Islands, the Gavarres, the Montseny and the Puigmal can be seen from there. It occupies the site of an old castle whose history goes back at least to 1065, when it appears documented as rocha curva in a will; throughout the Middle Ages it belonged to lineages such as the Hostoles, the Cartellà or the Rocabertí, lords of Peralada, until the castle was sold in 1342. The present sanctuary, from the 18th century, makes the site one of the most spectacular natural viewpoints in the comarques of Girona.
