Castle of Puig-alder Monument · Les Planes d'Hostoles, Garrotxa, Girona Castle already documented in 1021, in the will of Count Bernat Tallaferro of Besalú, who left it together with that of Hostoles to his son Guillem; together with the castles of Hostoles and Colltort, it formed the defensive line between the bishoprics of Vic and Girona. In 1212 it passed to Dolça, daughter of Mir d'Hostoles, and later to the House of Palafolls, which lost it in 1259, during the revolt of the Catalan nobility against James I, and it ended up in the hands of the crown. Ruined by earthquakes, only wall remains survive on the mountain of Sant Salvador; the only testimony of its existence is the church of Sant Salvador, a castle chapel documented since 1184, although the 12th-century Romanesque building disappeared and the present one is a recent reconstruction. A Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1988 (BCIN 1247-MH).
