Sant Sepulcre de Palera Monument · Beuda, Garrotxa, Girona The Benedictine priory of Sant Sepulcre, not to be confused with the nearby church of Santa Maria de Palera, was consecrated in 1085 by the Bishop of Girona Berenguer Guifré, with the attendance of the bishops of Barcelona, Carcassonne, Albi and Elne. In 1107 it came under the monastery of Santa Maria de la Grasse until the mid-16th century, and became a major centre of pilgrimage by offering indulgences comparable to those of visiting the Holy Land. The church survives, Romanesque from the 11th century, with a basilical plan of three naves and a chancel of three semicircular apses without a transept, along with some monastic buildings; of the cloister only two arches remain, along with remnants of capitals carved with birds and human figures.
