Castle of Falgars Monument · Beuda, Garrotxa, Girona Remains of a Roman tower, known as the Torre del Puig de Far or Castellot de Falgars, on the summit of Puig del Far (977 m), in the Serra del Mont, in the municipality of Beuda, near the monastery of Sant Llorenç de Sous. From this watchtower one commands views over the Empordà, the bay of Roses and the Fluvià valley. The structure, circular in plan with an interior diameter of 4.65 metres and walls almost two metres thick, was built with large, roughly worked ashlars at the base and smaller, better-cut blocks above; because of its technique, similar to that of the Neápolis of Empúries, it is believed to be Roman work, from the 2nd-1st centuries BC. Its function was linked to the control of the territory and its routes, especially the Capsacosta road and its junction with the Via Augusta. Photo: EliziR (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Beuda
