Castle of Beuda Monument · Beuda, Garrotxa, Girona Documented since 1002 by Pope Sylvester II, with an 11th-century circular tower and a 13th-century rectangular body, it stands atop a rocky outcrop north of the village and should not be confused with the so-called Castell Nou del Pla, located in the flat area. It belonged to the counts of Besalú and, after passing through several families, was sold in 1281 by Sibil·la de Palau to King Peter the Great, who granted it to Ponç Hug IV of Empúries; it later passed to the Queixàs family. Popularly known as the castell dels moros or castell de les Bruixes, it is declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) and today preserves the circular tower, 5.5 metres tall, and a stretch of the northwest wall.
