Castle of Ullastret (Torre de la Presó) Monument · Ullastret, Baix Empordà, Girona The Castell d'Ullastret is first documented in 1225, when the Bishop of Girona requested it from the count of Empúries as a guarantee of an agreement. It was under the control of the counts of Empordà in the 14th century, and in the 15th it passed into the hands of the Santfeliu, Margarit and Senesterra families. Of the castle only the walls of the lower enclosure remain, surrounding the village and retaining up to ten towers, among them the Torre de la Presó.
