Sant Iscle d'Empordà Monument · Serra de Daró, Baix Empordà, Girona Sant Iscle d'Empordà is a small settlement in the municipality of Serra de Daró (Baix Empordà) raised, like most villages in the area, on a hillock because of the former wetlands (aiguamolls), from where one of the most characteristic landscapes of the Baix Empordà can be seen. Its parish church, Romanesque, from the 12th century, has a nave with a semicircular apse decorated with a frieze of blind arcading; it is first mentioned in 1081 and was consecrated by Bishop Berenguer Humbert in 1123. Next to it are preserved the base of an old tower and a stretch of wall, restored in 1985, from a castle cited in medieval documents, while farmhouses from the 16th to the 18th centuries are scattered between the church and the ruins of the castle.
