Walls of Regencós Monument · Regencós, Baix Empordà, Girona The walls of Regencós are a fortification of the 14th and 15th centuries, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), surrounding the small medieval centre of this municipality in the Baix Empordà. Of quadrangular plan, they retain two circular towers, one of them almost complete except for the upper battlements, now integrated into a house; two gateways, one with a round arch and large voussoirs; and long stretches of wall with loopholes, up to three metres high. The masonry is of large stones bonded with mortar. The place of Regencós belonged from at least 1312 to the Cruïlles-Peratallada, who were also lords of Begur and Esclanyà, and in the 1365-1370 hearth tax it appears counted together with Esclanyà, with forty-eight hearths.
