Sant Cristòfol de Fonolleres Monument · Parlavà, Baix Empordà, Girona Small Romanesque-style church in the Fonolleres hamlet, in the municipality of Parlavà (Baix Empordà), part of the region's notable ensemble of rural Romanesque architecture. Already cited in an 1122 donation to the bishop of Girona by Estefania de Fonolleres, it is a single-nave temple with an abside that is pentagonal inside and semicircular outside, raised with a defensive character typical of many Empordà churches. The portal on the front has pointed archivolts and very eroded capitals, and the bell tower is a four-arch bell-gable; inside, the transverse arches of the pointed nave show corbels carved with human heads. Outside, a fragment of the pre-Romanesque head of the earlier temple is preserved, unearthed in 1970. Photo: Josep Renalias (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Parlavà
