Sant Martí de Fontanilles Monument · Fontanilles, Baix Empordà, Girona Single-nave Romanesque church located in Fontanilles (Baix Empordà), with a semicircular-plan abside and a double-splayed window; the vault is pointed in the nave and dome-shaped at the head. Already documented in 1019 as a possession of the Chapter of the Cathedral of Girona, it appears in the 1182 consecration act of the Augustinian chapter of Santa María de Ullà as one of the churches under that monastery's dominion. The building has undergone reforms and additions after the medieval period, such as the sacristy block, and the fortification works came to double the temple's original height. On the south side a new portal was opened in the 18th century, and above the front wall rises a baroque bell-gable with four openings. Photo: Mutari (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Fontanilles
