Sant Llorenç de les Arenes Monument · Foixà, Baix Empordà, Girona Small Romanesque church located in the settlement of Sant Llorenç de les Arenes, in the municipality of Foixà (Baix Empordà), by the Ter river. The present temple, from the 12th century, replaced the original church of Sant Romà de Sedillà, cited in 1065, whose parishioners moved here before 1313 when its site was buried by sand dunes. It was a commandery of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem from 1225, and by 1414 it was already described as half in ruins; it passed under the authority of Aviñonet and, from 1600, of Aiguaviva and Castellón de Ampurias. In June 2004 seven Romanesque capitals from the 11th and 12th centuries, from the old cloister, were stolen from it; only two were recovered and are now kept in the Diocesan Museum of Gerona.
