Castle of Colomers Monument · Colomers, Baix Empordà, Girona The Castell de Colomers is a building in the municipality of Colomers, in the Baix Empordà, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), which today houses the Town Hall. It stands adjoining the apse of the church, on Plaça de la Vila, and is a large, two-storey mansion of irregular plan with a tiled roof; the façade, of almost symmetrical composition, has on the ground floor, raised above the square, a round-arched doorway with large stone voussoirs opening onto a corridor from which the doors of the Casa de la Vila and the Cambra Agrària lead off. The building, known as the castle, occupies in part the site of the former monastic dependencies of the abbots of Amer, lords of the place; its present structure dates from around the 18th century, though it retains Gothic remains from the 15th century.
