Pedra Dreta (Mas Roqué Menhir) Curiosity · Vilamaniscle, Alt Empordà, Girona Image of Vilamaniscle, not of the place itself. A slate menhir 3.60 metres high, dated to around 3000 BC and considered one of the tallest and most spectacular of the l'Albera megalithic group. Also known as the Pedra dreta de Vilamaniscle, it stands beside the road leading from Rabós to the Romanesque monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera, near the turn-off to Vilamaniscle, and takes its name from a nearby farmhouse (mas) of the same name. It has two bases, as it stands on a terraced plot (feixa), and a cross was placed on its top in the past to Christianise this pagan monument. Local tradition holds that, because of its depth, if you put your ear to the stone you can hear the sea. Photo: Herodotptlomeu (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Vilamaniscle
