In 1879 the first outbreak of phylloxera south of the Pyrenees was detected in the municipal area of Rabós, at the Collado de Fornells opposite Sant Quirze de Colera; within a few years the plague devastated the Catalan vineyards and forced them to be replanted on American rootstock.
