Tower of el Vent Monument · Palau-saverdera, Alt Empordà, Girona The Torre del Vent is a former mill located on the summit of the hill of the same name, within the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). It is a circular structure, built of unworked stone and brick, which originally had a ground floor and one upper floor, conceived both as a mill for grinding grain and as a dwelling; today it has lost its entire upper finish. It is believed to have been built between the 17th and 18th centuries, and the first written reference mentioning it dates from 1771. Around 1818 it belonged to Abdó Oriol, who also owned the mill of Mas Oriol; at that time grain cultivation predominated in the area, which by the mid-19th century gave way to vineyards, and the mill fell into disuse: the 1873 census already records it as being in ruins.
