Les Escaules Village · Boadella i les Escaules, Alt Empordà, Girona A former independent municipality until 1846, when it was joined to Boadella, with which it has formed the municipality of Boadella i les Escaules since 2004. The village retains a castle documented since 1123, of which remains survive today together with those of a former monastery, and the Romanesque church of Sant Martí. It lies close to the right bank of the Muga river, on a hill, in a very quiet rural setting where the waterfall and pools of la Caula stand out. Its territory also has natural caves inhabited in prehistoric times, with remains up to 60,000 years old. It had 98 inhabitants in 2025.
