Castle-palace of Boadella Monument · Boadella i les Escaules, Alt Empordà, Girona The castle-palace of Boadella, from the 15th century, stands next to the church of Santa Cecília, facing the plaza de la Constitución, in the old quarter of the village, in the municipality of Boadella i les Escaules. A plaque above the large portal of its main façade bears the inscription "BN DE VILAMARI ME FECIT ANNO DNI MCCCCLVIII", dating the work to 1458, commissioned by the corsair and admiral Bernat de Vilamarí. The building, irregular in plan, is arranged around a courtyard with three attached wings; on the western façade a two-light window with trefoil arches stands out, and inside the old great hall is preserved, with large pointed diaphragm arches. Declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection), it belonged to the monastery of Sant Martí de les Escaules and, later, to that of Sant Pere de Rodes.
